Work History
I've been writing professionally since 1993. For two years, I was the sole reporter for The Walker County Messenger, a small town newspaper in Northwest Georgia. I covered virtually all governmental affairs, and wrote business and human interest stories as well. My opinion columns also frequently appeared on the Editorial page. During the two years I was there, I won several awards for my stories and photography.

In 1995, I went to work for Learning Labs, Inc. as a curriculum writer. Soon thereafter, I was promoted to Development Manager for Applied Technologies, a division of Learning Labs. My responsibilities include:

  • managing writers

  • developing technical curriculum for middle and high school students

  • creating and maintaining company web sites with decidedly different approaches

  • proofing and editing curriculum and promotional literature

  • designing and writing software documentation

  • testing newly developed software and reporting these problems to our programmer

  • employee and customer training

So as you can see, communication is my livelihood and what I was trained to do.

Web Design
Simply put: I love designing web sites. For me, it's the perfect combination of writing, graphic manipulation, and usability. So let me take this passion and help you design—or redesign—your site!

Here are examples of some of my work:

Inground Pool Design, Inc.
In 2003, when my wife and I asked around town about pool construction companies, one name kept coming back to us--Ben Brown and Inground Pool Design.  As soon as we met Ben, we were impressed with his professionalism and the quality of his work.  By the time he left our house after a free consultation, he had a new customer and we were on our way to getting a new pool.  In late 2007, Ben approached me about overhauling his web site.  That initial work was completed in April 2008.  Ben and his team are incredible to work with and will have that dream pool in your backyard before you know it.

The White Dress
I met owner Debye Culpepper through my friend and colleague Steve St.Clair of Highlights Photography.  Debye was ready for an online presence and turned to us to create a website for her bridal and formal wear shop The White Dress, which was formally known for years as The Wedding Belle.

Jennings & Associates, CPA
I have known Lee Jennings since 2000, when he first introduced me to the members of the George Faile Foundation and suggested to them that I build and maintain their web site.  In 2005, after being frustrated with the lack of attention he was getting from his webmaster, Lee hired me to maintain the Jennings & Associates site.  Lee has been helping me with my taxes and other business related issues since we met.  I can personally attest to his commitment, integrity, and efficiency.

JBH Technologies, Inc.
JBH Technologies, Inc. resells training and technology-based educational curriculum and materials in Illinois and Indiana. I met John Heitman and his son Michael through Applied Technologies as they resell AT products. They were impressed with my work and hired me to help them.

Highlights Photography
I have been friends with Steve St.Clair since 1995 and when I was offered the opportunity to help his photography business get online, I jumped at the chance. Steve has an excellent eye for beautiful portraits and amazing "candid" photos as you will see on his Highlights Photography web site. His prices are reasonable, but his work is exceptional. So if you're planning a wedding, family reunion, or portrait session, don't let some run-of-the-mill cookie-cutter hack do the job, visit Steve's site and "let them capture the highlights of your life."

The George Faile Foundation, Inc.
The web site for The George Faile Foundation, Inc. was first developed back in June of 2000 and was overhauled in October 2001.

People are wary about where, and for what reason, they donate their money, as well they should be. The site was designed to help potential donors feel secure about their giving by using an earth-tone color scheme (nothing flashy), plenty of opportunities to contact Board Members, and plenty of information about the Foundation's Mission.

In the fall of 2003, I created the Foundation's newsletter Operating for Christ. The first issue brought in approximately $2,000 in donations!

I invite you to look at the site not only to see an example of my work, but to encourage you to consider helping their cause as well.

Applied Technologies
Applied Technologies makes educational technology curriculum and materials for the K12 market. While Applied Technologies is not a Digital Pen customer (conflict of interest--my "real job" is at Applied Technologies), it's a great example of my design and marketing skills.

Of all the sites I've done, this is the one that contains the most frequent content changes.

Learning Labs, Inc.
As with Applied Technologies, Learning Labs, Inc. is not a Digital Pen customer per se, but the site is simply another example of my work.

Learning Labs is an exclusive academic reseller for many products, so many of the pages link to manufacturers' sites for specific information.
